Convergence of (Soft) Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication Simulations of Textured Slider Bearings

چکیده

We study the convergence of elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) simulations textured slider bearings. EHL are computationally expensive because equations that describe lubricant film pressure and deformation bearing surfaces coupled and, thus, must be solved simultaneously. Additional simulation requirements, such as maintaining a specific load-carrying capacity or thickness, further increase computational cost they impose additional constraints add converge simultaneously with those surface deformation. methodically quantify bearings function parameters, including different metrics criteria, but also cavitation models, texture design operating parameters. conclude interplay between discretization, metric, criterion carefully considered to implement numerical correct physical solution. Our analysis illustrates well-designed can minimize cost.

Transition from Boundary Lubrication to Hydrodynamic Lubrication of Slider Bearings

The transition from boundary lubrication to fully hydrodynamic lubrication is investigated for air-lubricated slider bearings using the electrical resistance method. Intermittent contacts are shown to exist even under conditions for which the numerical solution of the Reynolds equation or white light interferometry predicts steady state spacings in the spacing region from 0.125 to 0.25 pm. The ...

White Light Interferometry of Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Foil Bearings

This paper describes an experiment performed to verify the one-dimensional model of elastic foil behavior developed by Stahl, White, and Deckert [ 11. In the experiment, a loop of tape one-inch wide passes over a stationary recording head, and the air-film thickness between the head and the foil is determined using white light interferometry. Measured data for various experimental conditions ar...

Elastohydrodynamic lubrication of faults

The heat flow paradox provides evidence that a dynamic weakening mechanism may be important in understanding fault friction and rupture. We present here a specific model for dynamic velocity weakening that uses the mechanics of well-studied industrial bearings to explain fault zone processes. An elevated fluid pressure is generated in a thin film of viscous fluid that is sheared between nearly ...
